B.T.R.C. Record Store Collector's Series Presents U2 Innocence / Experience Set

Songs of Innocence was announced and released as a major Apple event September 9th, 2014. It was the bands 13th album and in many ways represented the end of the compact disc as the preferred method of physical delivery for music. Although the CD had been in decline for several years, when, arguably, the biggest band in the world released exclusively digitally, it became the symbolic nail in the coffin. The release with Apple made the record available at no charge to over 500 million iTunes customers in one day. Apple CEO Tim Cooke touted it as the largest release of all time. It wouldn't be released in physical form (vinyl as well) until October 14th, 2014.

March 2018 Singer Songwriter Record of the Month - Brandi Carlile - By The Way I Forgive You

March 2018 Singer Songwriter Record of the Month - Brandi Carlile - By The Way I Forgive You

I first heard Brandi Carlile live October 16, 2006 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.  I had discovered her self titled debut roughly a year earlier when it first released and I was immediately hooked.  Her vocals were haunting and deceptively powerful.  The harmonies she created with twin collaborators Tim and Phil Hanseroth were something special.  At that performance, Brandi was opening for Shawn Colvin.  After all, it was her first record.  Shawn was great.  I have always been a fan and she did not disappoint, but for me; I was there to see the opener.  It was all about Brandi and she blew me away.  Huge, powerful vocals always held back so they don't loose their punch.  Just a great show.

February 2018 Alternative Record of the Month - Moon Taxi - Let The Record Play

B.T.R.C. is excited to see a local band make our Record of the Month pick for February.  Moon taxi is from Nashville, TN and formed while all the members were students at Belmont University in 2006.  They floated around Nashville finishing school and putting out four independent studio records (Melodica, Cabaret, Mountains Beaches Cities, and Daybreaker) before signing with RCA Records in 2017.  They only signed in September, so Let The Record Play is the bands first label backed release.

February 2018 Rock Record of the Month - Brian Fallon - Sleepwalkers

Many of us at B.T.R.C. have always been fans of The Gaslight Anthem.  They have bounced around the indie scene for years.  While getting some critical buzz, they never seemed to really break through as a commercial success even though they consistently skated around the edges. In spite  of little to no radio success, the band kept touring hard and growing their fan base, which kept drawing the attention of both critics and labels.  In 2011, the band signed with Mercury Records and released their fourth record; Handwritten.  This album did produce the bands biggest radio milestone with the track "45".  This is still the bands most recognizable song to date in the US.  It went #22 Billboard Rock, #11 Billboard Alternative, and #20 on Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks.  The album also debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200.  That's the bands highest position to date.

February Spotlight Album of the Month - Van William - Countries

February Spotlight Album of the Month - Van William - Countries

This is Van William's debut solo album. He was the front man for the band Port O'Brien, so he has recorded before, but nothing at this level. This album only dropped January 19th, but we have a feeling that this might be one of the strongest Singer Songwriter albums to release this year. In addition to "Revolution", the album is full of potential radio singles. "Never Had Enough of You" is a great representation of William's style on this album. It has a dark and brooding verse that swells into a huge chorus with layered vocals. "Cosmic Sign" has a layered effect on the verse that harkens back to Elliot Smith yet unravels on the chorus.
