White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan

Get Behind Me Satan (2005) is one of The White Stripes’ most surprising and stylistically adventurous albums—a left turn that steered sharply away from the heavy, guitar-driven garage rock they were known for. Instead, Jack and Meg White embraced piano, marimba, vibes, and acoustic textures, crafting something looser, stranger, and far more theatrical.
Where Elephant felt like a coronation, Get Behind Me Satan felt like a challenge—Jack daring listeners to follow him down a twisting path of obsession, jealousy, and identity. The songwriting is sharp and sometimes uncomfortably honest, especially on tracks that confront fame and personal mythology ("The Nurse," "Little Ghost," "The Denial Twist"). Meg’s soft, ghostly turn on “Passive Manipulation” adds an eerie emotional pivot.
Though divisive at release, the album has since become a fan favorite and a critical touchstone, praised for its risk-taking and emotional depth.
