The Zombies - Begin Here

Begin Here is the debut studio album from The Zombies, and it introduced one of the most distinctive sounds of the British Invasion. Released in 1965, the album showcases the band's unusual combination of British beat music, R&B, jazz, baroque pop, and psychedelic touches, all centered around Colin Blunstone's remarkably smooth voice and Rod Argent's sophisticated keyboard playing.
Unlike many of their British Invasion contemporaries, The Zombies didn't rely primarily on blues-rock. Argent's background in jazz gave the band's arrangements an unusual harmonic sophistication, while Chris White's songwriting added a melodic and sometimes slightly surreal quality. The result was music that could be catchy enough for pop radio but considerably more adventurous underneath.
The album also demonstrates the band's range by mixing original material with carefully chosen covers of American R&B and soul songs.
