St. Paul & The Broken Bones - St. Paul & The Broken Bones

The self-titled album St. Paul & The Broken Bones was released October 10, 2025 via the band’s own label Oasis Pizza Records (distributed by Thirty Tigers). For the band — a tight eight-piece soul/R&B collective from Birmingham, Alabama — this record represents a kind of “reset and refresh.” After several albums of experimentation (psychedelic, art-rock, cinematic soul), they aimed to recenter on “song-focused roots” with a warmer, more soulful, classic-sounding record. The album was recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals — a symbolic return to the heart of classic American soul and R&B history. According to frontman Paul Janeway, this release captures a reinvigorated band feeling “reignited,” comfortable in their identity, and focused less on proving something and more on making good songs.

🔊 Sound & Themes — What to Expect
-
The album returns to the band’s classic soul / R&B / vintage-soul roots — full horns, earthy vocals, gospel-tinged harmonies and the kind of warmth and groove reminiscent of 1960s/70s southern soul.
-
Compared to their recent records (which experimented with psychedelic rock, cinematic textures, and broader atmospheres), this release feels more grounded, intimate, and centered on the joy of songwriting and live-band energy.
-
The production — handled in collaboration with acclaimed producer Eg White (known for work with major pop/soul artists) — brings polished warmth without losing the raw soul spirit.
- Lyrically and emotionally, the album balances joy, nostalgia, longing, and resilience — a snapshot of a band reconnecting with their roots while embracing what they’ve grown into.
