Kingfishr - Halcyon

Halcyon is the first full‐length studio album by Kingfishr, released on August 22, 2025.
Kingfishr are three young musicians from rural Ireland (Tipperary, etc.) — the album’s origins trace back to songs written around kitchens, small rooms, and farm life.
🔍 Themes & Sound
-
The title Halcyon nods to “a calm, peaceful time” or – as the band describes – the landscape and heritage that shaped them, even if the songs aren’t always happy. “We grew up in different parts of rural Ireland though the band itself was born on a dairy farm in Tipperary … The name Halcyon is a nod to the landscape and heritage that has moulded our music, even though the songs don’t all come from a happy or peaceful place.”
 -
Sound: A blend of folk roots, indie‑pop/folk rock, and strong sing‑along hooks. Banjo, acoustic instrumentation, strong melodies, and Irish storytelling melded with arena‐ready energy.
 - Live‐readiness: The album builds on the band’s capacity to connect live (“rousing hooks … that inspire huge sing‑alongs at live shows”) and pool that into recordings.

 -
“Eyes Don’t Lie”, “Caroline”, “Shot in the Dark” are other early fan favourites included on this debut.
 -
The band speaks of Halcyon as the culmination of ~3 years of work. They emphasize roots (farm, kitchen, rural Ireland) yet channel modern ambitions.
 - The closing of the album (“Schooldays”) is described as optimistic: “roses rise in the darkest of places.”
