Kelly Finnigan – B-Sides, Singles & Forgotten Gems

For fans of vintage soul, warm analog production and deep-cut funk, B-Sides, Singles & Forgotten Gems is a treasure trove of overlooked recordings from Kelly Finnigan, one of the modern soul revival's most compelling voices.
Spanning roughly 15 years of Finnigan's creative relationship with Colemine Records, this collection brings together rare singles, B-sides, cover versions and previously unreleased material. It's a musical time capsule that traces his development as a vocalist, songwriter and producer, from his earliest work with the group Destruments through his more recent solo recordings.
Best known as the frontman of California soul outfit Monophonics, Finnigan has built a reputation for channeling the sound of classic 1960s and '70s soul without simply imitating it. His voice carries the grit and warmth of vintage soul greats, while his arrangements draw from psychedelic soul, deep funk, gospel and Northern Soul.
The collection opens with “Freedom,” an early Destruments recording that highlights Finnigan's beginnings as a vocalist. Elsewhere, tracks like “Trouble” and “Keep Me in Mind” give previously released singles additional room to breathe, while several selections pay tribute to the classic soul artists and obscure recordings that helped shape his musical identity. The previously unreleased closer, “The Hurting Truth,” features Jimmy James of Parlor Greens.
