Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl

Howl is the sound of a band stepping away from distortion and discovering something older, dustier, and more spiritual underneath. After two albums of feedback-drenched garage rock, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club pivoted hard—trading fuzz pedals for acoustic guitars, gospel harmonies, harmonica, and blues-rooted storytelling.
The result is their most organic and arguably most human record.
Where earlier releases felt urban and nocturnal, Howl feels sun-bleached and roadside. It draws deeply from American folk, Delta blues, gospel, and country traditions, echoing everything from revival-tent spirituality to back-porch confession. The production is warm and analog; you can almost hear the wood of the instruments vibrate.
Lyrically, the album wrestles with faith, redemption, sin, longing, and personal reckoning. There’s a spiritual searching running through it—sometimes defiant, sometimes pleading. Songs feel less like rock anthems and more like hymns muttered to oneself at 2 a.m.
