Alabama Shakes – I Must Be Dreaming

Alabama Shakes – I Must Be Dreaming

After more than a decade away from the studio, Alabama Shakes return with I Must Be Dreaming, their first full-length album since 2015's Grammy-winning Sound & Color. The long-awaited third album finds the Alabama-born trio revisiting the soulful intensity that made them one of the most distinctive bands of the 2010s while pushing further into psychedelic textures, experimental production and atmospheric soul.

Now operating as a trio featuring Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg and Zac Cockrell, the band recorded the album at Nashville's Sound Emporium and Blackbird Studios, working alongside longtime collaborator and producer Shawn Everett. The result is a rich, expansive sound that balances the gritty blues-rock foundations of Boys & Girls with the adventurous sonic experimentation of Sound & Color.

The album's title captures its central tension: the feeling that the world has become increasingly surreal and frightening, contrasted with the possibility of finding beauty, connection and hope in unexpected places. Howard explores mortality, relationships, social unrest and the strange contradictions of modern life, delivering some of her most emotionally layered performances to date.
