At Blind Tiger Record Club, all of our curated vinyl is separated into "Styles".  Styles is a combination of traditional retail genres and radio formats.  Members pick a default style and will get curated albums from that specific style each month.  Members can switch styles at any time throughout the month.

Singer Songwriter - 
This style consists of music genres that include Folk, Americana, Country, Bluegrass, Alternative Country, Alternative Folk, and Contemporary Singer Songwriter.  

Radio formats would be Americana and Folk radio (NPR) with some Triple A and Country.  

It includes artist like Chris Stapelton, Jason Isbell, John Prine, Neil Young, Margo Price, Robert Plant, Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits, Brandi Carlile, Bob Dylan, and Alison Krauss.

Rock - 

This style has the music genres that include American Rock, Adult Oriented Rock (AOR), Roots Rock, Country Rock, Southern Rock, Heartland Rock, Punk Rock, New Wave, Hard Rock, Metal,  Nu Metal, Progressive Rock, Garage Rock, Post Punk, Jam Bands, Rockabilly, Pop Rock, Soft Rock, Power Pop, and Singer Songwriter Rock.  

Radio formats would be Mainstream Rock, Active Rock, Adult Oriented Rock (AOR), and Contemporary Hit Radio (CHR).  

It includes artist like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Drivin N Cryin, Metallica, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Clash, Foo Fighters, Jack White, Stone Temple Pilots, U2, Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Queens of the Stone Age.

Alternative - 

This style consists of the music genres Adult Alternative (Triple A), Alternative Rock (Alt-Rock), Brit Pop, Post Grunge, Noise Pop, Grunge, Indie Rock, Shoegazing, and Emo.

Radio formats include Adult Alternative (Triple A), Alternative, and Modern Rock.

It includes artist like Twenty One Pilots, The Record Company, Father John Misty, Lord Huron, Anderson East, The Wombats, Lorde, The Pixies, Black Eyed Keys, The Strumbellas, The Avett Brothers, Imagine Dragons, Lumineers, Manchester Orchestra, Mumford & Sons, Weezer,  and Cage The Elephant.  

Jazz Soul & Blues - 

This style consists of the music genres Traditional Jazz, Mainstream Jazz, Latin Jazz, Ragtime, Fusion, Dixieland, Big Band, Crooners, Lounge, Swing, Bop, Standards, Vocal Jazz, R&B, Funk, Motown, Neo-soul, Soul, Disco, Hip Hop Soul, Nu Jazz, Soul Blues, Reggae, Classic Blues, Acoustic Blues, Delta Blues, Spirituals, Gospel Blues, and Boogie Woogie.

Radio formats include Urban, Soul, and Jazz.

It includes artists like Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Booker T & The MGs, Fantastic Negrito, Leon Bridges, Otis Redding, John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Ben Harper, Fugees, Marvin Gaye, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Howlin Wolf, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Nina Simone, Muddy Waters, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Khalid, Curtis Harding, Lyrics Born, D'Angelo, and A Tribe Called Quest.

Classic Rock - 

This Style consists of albums released between the mid 1960's through 1989.  It primarily consist of rock and metal bands, but other sub genres have been mixed in as well including New Wave, Punk, Post Punk, Southern Rock, American Rock, Heartland Rock, and a few other styles from Rock and Alternative styles.  Some early 1990's artists from Grunge and rock have started to be considered get added to this format of radio, but it is not normally considered Classic Rock.

Radio formats include Classic Rock, Alum Oriented Rock (AOR), and Classic Alternative.

It includes artist like Kansas, Led Zepplin, Yes, Guns N' Roses, Def Leppard, Rolling Stones, Van Halen, The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, The Cars, Alice Cooper, Foreigner, Steve Miller Band, Cheap Trick, Whitesnake, ZZ Top, The Velvet Underground, David Bowie, Elton John, CCR, AC/DC, Boston, The Clash, and the Beatles.

Discover - 

This style is open to every style and genre of music.  All are at, or have been at, commercial format radio.  Some may have achieved critical success among music journalists and periodicals.  It could be a new release or a reissue. It includes the following types of releases:

  • New Artists - Most of these artist are new to radio formats and just starting to gain some national buzz.  Recent releases include artist like Joseph, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Greta Van Fleet, and lovelytheband.  
  • Niche' Artist - Artist that are in smaller niche or sub-genres of music, but have reached a certain level of critical success and notoriety.  Recent releases include Pedro the Lion.
  • Guest Artist Curators - These albums are picked specifically by guest artist curators.  
This style is specifically for discovering music.  Whether its new or just something not as familiar, each months release is specifically designed to introduce a wide range of music to both new and established record collectors.
